TRAVEL THURSDAY : BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN PORTO

We love boutique hotels. Have you ever stayed at a Boutique Hotel? And have you ever noticed the excitement around what kind of room you will get?

Each and every room is different, in colors, pillows, mood, art and decoration. Boutique hotels are becoming more and more popular, and no wonder because a lot of them are so charming! Just like The Torel Avantagrde in Porto, Portugal!

The Torel Avantgarde says they have decorated the hotel based on the “spirit and vision” of artist within different fields, for example the America singer Nina Simone, the English philosopher Francis Bacon, and the Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti are a few. Collaborating with local artists and an interior decorator, the hotel managed to create 47 unique rooms, and STUNNING common areas, like the flower room. See picture below! The hotel is so well-designed, so nicely decorated,  and well planned that it is a delight to be there.

The Flower Room at Torel Avantgarde Hotel

Might we say that that this hotel is managed by two women, so there is no doubt that a lot of research went into the development of this hotel. For example there is no coincidence that the restaurant of the hotel is called DIGBY. Thoughtfully named after the inventor of the modern wine bottle, Sir Kenelm Digby who also was a courtier and diplomat in the 1600’s. We had dinner there and it was delicious! Perfectly cooked meat, presented in a flawless way. The staff at the restaurant was super friendly and always around, but not too much, (well, maybe for some, but we liked it). The buffet breakfast had a wide variety of typical breakfast food and juices!

We really enjoyed our stay at Torel Avantgard in Porto, and we recommend you check it our if you are traveling that way. Over all perhaps you’d think it is a little pricey, but we say it is an experience that is worth the money (and we didn’t even hit the pool nor the spa!).
